How to Pray for Translation Projects
Pray for pre-contact concerns.
Pray that God will prepare hearts with a hunger for spiritual truth, an openness to seek it, and a readiness to receive Christ.
“God did this so that men would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him.” (Acts 17:27 NIV)
Pray for workers to be called and sent.
“Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.” (Matthew 9:38 NIV)
Pray for the allocation of the workers.
Pray that workers will be guided to the right location and people to help them learn the language and translate the Scriptures.
“After Paul had seen the vision, we got ready at once to leave for Macedonia, concluding that God had called us to preach the gospel to them.” (Acts 16:10 NIV)
Pray for initial contacts with the people.
Pray that God will allay fears and suspicions of the people and provide friends who will make housing available and help the workers make the cross-cultural adjustments necessary to be accepted by the people.
“…you did not treat me with contempt or scorn. Instead, you welcomed me as if I were an angel of God.” (Galatians 4:14 NIV)
Pray for ongoing relationships and communication of the message.
Pray for opportunities to serve, protection from false rumors and misunderstandings, and for the community to feel the project belongs to them through their involvement.
“Entirely on their own, they urgently pleaded with us for the privilege of sharing in this service to the saints.” (2 Corinthians 8:3,4 NIV)
Pray for the completion of the task to the glory of God.
“I have brought you glory on earth by completing the work you gave me to do.” (John 17:4 NIV)
“…so that all nations might believe and obey him.” (Romans 16:26 NIV)
